Due to inclement weather, the UAE president's visit to Islamabad has been postponed.

ISLAMABAD:

President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's day-long visit to Pakistan has been postponed due to inclement weather, according to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

According to reports, the UAE president was preparing to take off but was unable to arrive in Islamabad due to heavy rain and weather conditions in Bahawalpur.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is also said to have contacted Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, expressing regret for the postponement of the visit and promising to return to Islamabad soon for a two-day visit.

Following the announcement, the Inspector General of Islamabad and the Security Division removed the security personnel, and all roads in the capital were reopened to traffic.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the UAE president would be flown by JF-17 aircraft to Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Nur Khan Air Base, where he would be saluted with a 21-gun salute.

PM Shehbaz and key members of the federal cabinet were expected to greet the visitor at the air base.

It was also reported that upon his arrival, Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan will be greeted with a guard of honour by the country's armed forces at the Prime Minister's House.

Furthermore, the UAE president was expected to meet with the premier one-on-one.

Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan's visit was scheduled just a week after he arrived in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, on a private visit.

PM Shehbaz had greeted him at the Rahim Yar Khan Airport, and the two leaders had a meeting.

During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. Shehbaz stated that both countries would work to implement the agreement reached by the two leaders during his recent visit to the UAE.
