Russia Today Loses Fight Against EU Ban, Moscow Warns of Retaliation...in 2022

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - State-controlled news source Russia Today on Wednesday lost its court battle against an European Union boycott forced in March over supposed disinformation, provoking the Kremlin to caution of retaliatory measures against Western media.

Europe's second most elevated court maintained the EU choice, taken after Brussels blamed Russia Today for precise disinformation over Russia's attack of Ukraine.


"The Grand Chamber of the General Court excuses RT France's application for abrogation of demonstrations of the Council, took on following the flare-up of the conflict in Ukraine, briefly restricting that association from broadcasting content," the Luxembourg-based General Court said.

The Kremlin said the EU court's choice was "very negative" and that Moscow would go to comparable lengths against Western media accordingly.


In a call with columnists, Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov said Russia Today couldn't work in Europe however he trusted it would track down provisos to continue broadcasting.


RT France said it would speak to the Court of Justice of the European Union, Europe's most noteworthy.


"The Court's affirmation of this general boycott with a questionable term tragically demonstrates the way that the legal force of the European Union can't or doesn't have any desire to go against political power," Xenia Fedorova, leader of RT France, said in a proclamation.


The EU endorse, which applies to RT's English unit and tasks in Britain, Germany, France and Spain, implies RT content can't be communicated or scattered by EU administrators.


The boycott incorporates the suspension of RT's communicating licenses and authorisation, transmission and dissemination game plans with its EU partners.


The case is T-125/22.
